JESUS – WHEN THE LAMB OF GOD, RETURNS AS THE CONQUERING LION

The warrior God of the Old Testament, is the suffering servant, Messiah, who returns as the conquering King of the New Testament. The disparate two must be married in our mind. The union of the lion and the lamb is Jesus, as seen in the old world and new. This truth has been lost on a world gone mad. And yet, it is our duty to press on, fight the good fight, and be the ambassadors to the end, in, on, and through to the new millennium where the lion and lamb lay aside in peace. Until then, we have much work to do.

Amo 8:11 – Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD[.]

As was done of old, let us cherish the rediscovery of truth long hidden. And diligently scour the Scripture for truths we can use along the journey to the new world.

Doing As Scripture Saith |

2Ki 22:1 – Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.

2Ki 22:2 – And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.

2Ki 22:3 – And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying,

2Ki 22:4 – Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:

2Ki 22:5 – And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the house,

2Ki 22:6 – Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

2Ki 22:7 – Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.

2Ki 22:8 – And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

2Ki 22:9 – And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.

2Ki 22:10 – And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

2Ki 22:11 – And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

2Ki 22:12 – And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king’s, saying,

2Ki 22:13 – Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.

2Ki 22:14 – So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.

2Ki 22:15 – And she said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me,

2Ki 22:16 – Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:

2Ki 22:17 – Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

2Ki 22:18 – But to the king of Judah which sent you to enquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard;

2Ki 22:19 – Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.

2Ki 22:20 – Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.

We have neglected His ways and ignored the history of those who came before us. So too, we must repent and diligently seek His face, His ways, for we are broken and need repair. Let us do so.

Hidden History | Conquest |

The human story is that of a hidden history, where giants roamed and genetic aberration stunted the growth of humanity. If you are unfamiliar with this history, you should get up to speed forthwith as it has bearing on how you see the Bible in light of today’s headlines and the history we are told. The unfolding of the end times futurescape in the now, is as Jesus said, a time like the days of Noah. And the genetic scape of that day and the times and generations following, was a horror story reality where the inhabitants consumed man as flesh for meat. Hence the horrific language given to man, to destroy the squatters (man, woman, child, and beast) who had invaded (for they were genetic abominations usurping) land belonging to Man. And just as was done in ancient times, we should do likewise in living out the commands and truths of Scripture. Any remnant “art” or “structure” built to honor fallen angels, their offspring, demons and the like must be destroyed.

Doing as commanded |

Deu 7:1 – When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

Deu 7:2 – And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:

Deu 7:3 – Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.

Deu 7:4 – For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.

Deu 7:5 – But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.

Deu 7:6 – For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

Deu 7:7 – The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

Deu 7:8 – But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

Deu 7:9 – Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

Deu 7:10 – And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.

Deu 7:11 – Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.

Deu 7:12 – Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:

Deu 7:13 – And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

Deu 7:14 – Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.

Deu 7:15 – And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.

Deu 7:16 – And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee.

Deu 7:17 – If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?

Deu 7:18 – Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt;

Deu 7:19 – The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid.

Deu 7:20 – Moreover the LORD thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed.

Deu 7:21 – Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.

Deu 7:22 – And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.

Deu 7:23 – But the LORD thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.

Deu 7:24 – And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them.

Deu 7:25 – The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.

Deu 7:26 – Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

Toilet Found in 3,000-Year-Old Shrine Verifies Bible Stories Against Idol Worship

In one corner of the shrine sits a stone seat with a hole in the center. The archaeologists believe that not only is it definitely a toilet, it’s a toilet that was installed for the express purpose of literally desecrating the shrine. Hezekiah, it seems, was just following instructions against idol worship in the scriptures:

“Then they demolished the pillar of Baal, and destroyed the temple of Baal, and made it a latrine to this day” (2 Kings 10:27).

The seriousness with which we should read the Scripture should manifest in our lives, as we to take to heart and live out its eternal truths. As the famine of hearing the word of God continues in these last days. We would do well to live out the truths of Scripture in our daily lives as oasises of living water, replete with sustenance and a common defense for all who are willing to hear God’s word and be blessed by His provenance.

1Ti 5:8 – But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Most of Christendom lives in ignorance of the war being waged against God and his people. And how that war manifests in their daily lives. This ignorance is inclusive of thinking we should “turn the other cheek” in response to every physical conflict. Which is contrary to other actions that Jesus said and did, both incarnate and pre-incarnate.

Luk 22:36 – Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

Luk 22:37 – For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

Luk 22:38 – And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

Flash forward in reverse, and we see Jesus’ theophanic appearance as the Angel Of The Lord in the Old Testament. Jesus the warrior goes before his people, leading by example, leading the charge.

Exo 23:23 – For mine Angel [Jesus] shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.

Exo 32:34 – Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.

Take note Jesus is carrying a sword. …

Jos 5:13 – And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man [Jesus
theophany] over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

Jos 5:14 – And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I [Jesus] now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?

Jos 5:15 – And the captain of the LORD’S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

Only God is to be worshipped, and so we can reason this is Jesus (pre-incarnate), armed and captaining the armies of the Lord.

Do you not hear the call? Do you not hear the battle cry? “Forward!” “Move!” “Take action!” “The enemy advances!”

Is history not the intertwining of man and God taking action in defense and offense of the man? The battles of old ridding Earth of usurpers of the Luciferian kind were real, as real as the battles manifesting today to rid Earth of Man. Today, the progeny of those of the same mind, wage war by deceit, in lie they encroach. Lying in wait, until their strength is formidable.

And in order to wage war we must identify the enemy. And whose soft war is fought by deceit? Which human tribe condones lies as religious creed? Which people group invades by migration (and does not assimilate)? If you have not read the history of the Baphometers, I suggest you do now. For the enemy has deeply migrated into the heart of Christendom under the guise of Islam whose demonic leader was Mohamed, deriving from ‘Baphomet’ = Mahomet.

Dan 11:38 – But in his estate shall he [Antichrist] honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.

History is the story of technology and technologic change. History is the story of man harnessing technology and changing the world for the better and worse with that techno-knowledge . It is our duty to provide for the protection of our families and the weak, both spiritually and physically. Our adversary is a master of the craft of the subtitle and we must “rightly divide the word of truth” discerning the wiles of the devil and his mistruths of Scripture. “Hath God not said?”

Mat 10:16 – Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Behold, *I* send you as sheep in the midst of wolves; be therefore prudent as the serpents, and guileless as the doves.

And remember move out in the armor of the Lord.

Eph 6:10 – Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Eph 6:11 – Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Eph 6:12 – For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Eph 6:13 – Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Eph 6:14 – Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Eph 6:15 – And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Eph 6:16 – Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Eph 6:17 – And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Eph 6:18 – Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Ever watching as the “time is short” and he Lord is on the move.

Rev 1:16 – And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

Rev 2:16 – Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Rev 19:11 – And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

Rev 19:12 – His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

Rev 19:13 – And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

Rev 19:14 – And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

Rev 19:15 – And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

Rev 19:16 – And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Dan 11:32 – And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

The strong will heed the words of Jesus and do all he commands, both arming with the technology of the day, and donning the armor of the lord to be able to discern the spiritual battle that manifests in the natural.

Jhn 14:15 – If ye love me, keep my commandments.

The Angel of the Lord

This writer also maintains that the Old and New Testaments are intrinsically connected and make up God’s revelation to man. The claims in the New Testament portion concerning Jesus correspond to those claims in the Old Testament portion which refer to the angel of the Lord. Jesus claimed to be the supreme malakh of God. “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). The angel of the Lord did miraculous acts; so did Jesus. (See John 2:9, Matthew 8:3, Luke 7:11, Matthew 15:32, etc.) The angel of the Lord taught and instructed people; Jesus was called “rabbi” (John 20:16). The angel of the Lord is a judge of mankind; in John 5:22 we see “The Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son.” Is Jesus of Nazareth and the angel that wrestled with Jacob one and the same? Carefully study the Scriptures for God’s answer.

  1. Excellent article. Just did a small study on the “Lucifer”, the Hebrew renders it as H1966 (Strongs) hêylêl hay-lale’
From H1984 (in the sense of brightness); the morning star: – lucifer.
AND when you look at H1984 (how fitting thinking of George Orwell’s novel 1984) it is rendered as: hâlal
    haw-lal’
A primitive root; to be clear (originally of sound, but usually of color); to shine; hence to make a show; to boast; and thus to be (clamorously) foolish; to rave; causatively to celebrate; also to stultify: – (make) boast (self), celebrate, commend, (deal, make), fool (-ish, -ly), glory, give [light], be (make, feign self) mad (against), give in marriage, [sing, be worthy of] praise, rage, renowned, shine.

Thinking on “Halal” in Arabic is the prescribed slaughter of “meat”. Making connections isn’t easy, a bit vague, but I can see the “Nimrod” in that (for lack of a better reference)

Walking with the Lord Jesus Christ and none other!

    Thank you for your article!

    1. May God grant your request!

Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

    2. Why? Just go by what Jesus says in Luke 17:3 ”take heed to yourself: If your brother trespass against thee, REBUKE him; and IF HE REPENTS, (THEN) forgive him.

You have allowed xtians to intimidate you to think you gotta ”forgive everybody or God won’t forgive you”. That is pure hogwash. Do you really think God expects us to forgive the devil then?? For you know, most worldly trespassers are the children of the devil. They are surely not even our Brothers, since we are in Gods Family and they are in satans family.

(There are very very few true Brethren (brothers) in this world, so I think you are fretting about a big nothing.)
In short……..no rebuke and repentance……no forgiveness.

  2. Just more “rapture retardism” from evangelical bible thumpers.

FYI–Jesus is not going to return, and not going to float down with lasers shooting out of his eyes and ears doing all the heavy lifting for you.

If you belive in this rubbish–then your minds are completely trapped into inaction and paralysis, as are the majority of evanglical Christains who believe in the rapture and the apacalypse.

Not going to happen. Get over it and get real please.

    1. “Every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”
      That means “YOU” Shinmen.

You might want to try some practice runs at it now and get those knees warmed up before the big event.

      1. You’ll be waiting until you dying day for something to happen. Nothing will.

Every burp in history has the bible thumpers out in force spouting some sorta’ verse or prophesy… going before back before the Nappleonic wars even.

I have listened in on conversationa between “rapture retards” actually wishing to be “beamed out” or wishing to die being “persecuted”

When SHTF you will all be ground in mush while you are waiting for a supernatural force to save you.

    2. You wanna bet? 1 Thess 4:16 ”for the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first 17 Then we which are alive (In Christ) and remain (still living) shall be CAUGHT UP together with them IN THE CLOUDS to meet the Lord in the AIR, and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
That is the Rapture, but it isn’t for everybody. Its for bible thumpers.

  3. As long as you have such an incorrect understanding of the inspired word of God, you won’t be doing ANYTHING in the “new millenium” as you’ve called it, but as the word of God calls the “new system of things” where Satan is no longer ruler of the world, and where the Kingdom has replaced all Earthly governments. Thinking that Jesus father is also Jesus is just plain weird, wrong, and a suicidal belief. God the Almighty is not His own son. God’s son is now the King fo the Kingdom of the Heavens, he is not God. Jesus isn’t his own father. What a thoroughly strange thing to believe.

    1. God tells Moses, “i am that I am” a d Jesus says the same of himself in the gospels. He, Jesus, makethis statement to show his equallity and being as God, the almighty. The misu derstanding is ypurs, not Forthtell.

  4. You’ll be waiting until you dying day for something to happen. Nothing will.

    1. Empty words!

      Where is you reasoning?!

      Where is your logic?!

Where is the substance of your thought process?!

      Emptiness!

      Nothing but shallow attacks!

Take time to validate your sin man!

    The Hound of Heaven
“The Hound of Heaven” is a 182-line poem written by English poet Francis Thompson (1859–1907). The poem became famous and was the source of much of Thompson’s posthumous reputation. The poem was first published in Thompson’s first volume of poems in 1893.[1] It was included in the Oxford Book of English Mystical Verse (1917). Thompson’s work was praised by G. K. Chesterton, and it was also an influence on J. R. R. Tolkien, who presented a paper on Thompson in 1914.[2]

This Christian poem has been described as follows:

“The name is strange. It startles one at first. It is so bold, so new, so fearless. It does not attract, rather the reverse. But when one reads the poem this strangeness disappears. The meaning is understood. As the hound follows the hare, never ceasing in its running, ever drawing nearer in the chase, with unhurrying and imperturbed pace, so does God follow the fleeing soul by His Divine grace. And though in sin or in human love, away from God it seeks to hide itself, Divine grace follows after, unwearyingly follows ever after, till the soul feels its pressure forcing it to turn to Him alone in that never ending pursuit.” J.F.X. O’Conor, S.J.[3]

    Musical settings

    Influence

In 2014, N. D. Wilson wrote and directed a short film based upon the poem, titled “The Hound of Heaven”.
Thompson’s poem was the inspiration for a series of 23 paintings by the American painter R. H. Ives Gammell (1893–1981). Titled, A Pictorial Sequence Painted by R. H. Ives Gammell Based on The Hound of Heaven, it is considered Gammell’s magnum opus. Gammell began making plans to execute the pictorial sequence during World War II and completed the series in 1956. For his paintings, Gammell used symbols drawn from C. G. Jung, primitive and medieval cultures, and biblical and mythological sources, to give visual form to Thompson’s poem. The Pictorial Sequence was recently (March 15, 2013 through May 27, 2013) housed at the Maryhill Museum of Art, Goldendale, Washington, USA.[4]
Thompson’s poem is also the source of the phrase, “with all deliberate speed,” used by the Supreme Court in Brown II, the remedy phase of the famous decision on school desegregation.[5]
The Christian alternative rock band Daniel Amos wrote a song titled Hound of Heaven on their 1978 album Horrendous Disc that is based on the Thompson poem.[6]Review of Horrendous Disc
“The Hound of Heaven” is the fifth chapter in Robert L. Short’s 1965 book The Gospel According to Peanuts where he describes Snoopy as a “little Christ” carrying out “Christ’s ambivalent work of humbling the exalted and exalting the humble.”[7]
“The Hound of Heaven” was mentioned in the suicide note of George R. Price, a geneticist who pioneered the evolutionary theory of altruism and suicide (among other things), before becoming a committed Christian and giving away all his possessions to the poor.[8]
In 1935, Paramahansa Yogananda, an East Indian spiritual master, included “The Hound of Heaven” in one of his phonographic albums, “Songs of My Heart”. Today, his organization, Self-Realization Fellowship, offers this album in the form of a CD. Kamala Silva, a direct disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda, received the gift of a printing of the “Hound of Heaven” from Yogananda and he also recited it for her.[9][10]
In A. J. Cronin’s novel, A Pocketful of Rye, the protagonist Carroll reads the poem as a young man, forgets it, and suffers from a recurring nightmare that finally leads to his conversion.
A short passage from the poem appears in chapter four of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca.[11]
Lines from the poem are recited between the discussion during the last scene in “The last enemy”, which is 2nd episode, 3rd season of Inspector Morse.
“The Hound of Heaven” is the first chapter in John Stott’s book Why I am a Christian in which he confesses that he is a Christian not because of the influence of his parents and teachers, nor to his own personal decision, but to being relentlessly pursued by ‘the Hound of Heaven’, that is, Jesus Christ himself.[12]
The main character is reading a book by this name in the first episode of the Irish TV series Jack Taylor.
In 1955, a love letter from Suzanne Kempe to her philosophy lecturer, Sydney Sparkes Orr, quotes excerpts from the poem. Their affair was later brought to trial in Tasmania.[13]
In describing her journey from atheism and agnosticism to devout Christianity, Fox News commentator Kirsten Powers said, “The Hound of Heaven had pursued me and caught me….”[14]
“The Hound of Heaven” was used as an example of the hero’s “refusal of the call” to adventure in Joseph Campbell’s book, “The Hero with a Thousand Faces”.
In 1970, Canadian artist William Kurelek used lines from “The Hound of Heaven” as titles for his “Nature, Poor Stepdame, A Series of Sixteen Farm Paintings”.
In 1933, Halliday Sutherland used a phrase from the second line of the poem as the title of his best-selling autobiography “The Arches of the Years”.
In 2001 Ken Bruen cites the poem admiringly in his novel “The Guards”.[15]
“The Hound of Heaven” inspired Norwegian composer Fartein Valen (1887-1952) to compose his Piano Sonata No. 2, Op. 38 (1941).[16] The sonata’s three movements reflect different parts of Thompson’s poem. The piece has been recorded by Glenn Gould.
